About WAAMH

The WA Association for Mental Health Inc. (WAAMH) was incorporated in 1966. During that time a number of agencies were mentored and became separately incorporated and a major focus of activity was in connection with education activities during Mental Health Week.

In 1996 as a result of community encouragement and consultation WAAMH was reviewed, and in 1997 reorganised to become the Western Australian peak non-government not for profit mental health representative body.

The Agency Vision is to work towards a future in which the health and well being of people affected by mental illness is promoted and supported by a range of community based mental health services, and in which there is a community acceptance of people with mental illness.

In working towards this Vision WAAMH supports and encourages the development of the non-government not for profit mental health sector.

Governed by a Board of Management WAAMH aims to;

  • Represent mental health non-government organisations,
  • Develop and influence policy relevant to people affected by mental illness
  • Advocate for the interests of people affected by mental illness
  • Assist in the development of the non-government mental health sector
  • Participate in community education.

WAAMH has strong links with state and national mental health organisations, and has through these organisations links with overseas mental health bodies.

We hope that this website will raise awareness of our role and activities, and that it will encourage people and organisations to learn more about us and to have a better understanding of mental health issues and how they affect individuals, their families and the community.
